COM Object Tester
COM objects facilitate communication between workstation (client) and server machines in peer-to-peer or dedicated server networks and between C++ dlls and .NET assemblies in all systems by matching the different program languages so that they can understand each other. Refer to Install Denali to find out more about different network configurations.
The COM Object Manager allows you, often with the assistance of Customer Support, to test the COM objects to ensure that they were created correctly by the system. If you are having problems connecting to the server, try testing the COM objects as part of the troubleshooting process.
To test a COM object:
1 From the Denali Client Utilities menu, select the COM Object Tester.
Click thumbnail for a larger view of image.
2 Select either Create NetDLL.LoadNetMethods or Create NetDLL.LoadNetDLL to test creating dll and .NET assemblies on the workstation (client) machine.
If you want to test the interface between the workstation machine and the server machine, type the name of the server that is being interfaced in the Server box and select Create SXMLPARS.CXMLCommandParser.
3 Click Exit to exit this utility after you are done testing the COM objects.
4 If the COM object creation fails, it will cause a fatal system-wide error.
These interfaces might fail if you skip steps during the installation process, if parts of the system are inappropriately altered, or if the objects incorrectly reference the registry. If the COM object creation fails, there are a few things you can check or do to correct the problem. Here is a list of the options and the order in which you should complete them. After you complete each option, check to see if the COM object is communicating correctly; if not, continue with the next option.
Check your firewall, virus protection, and network settings (see Before You Begin Installing Denali).
Reinstall the COM object. If you are unsure of this task, contact Customer Support at (800) 390-7053 or an IT professional.
Reinstall the Denali software (see Install Denali).
