Manage COM+
This utility adjusts the number of COM+ objects that can be used with the server. This utility helps protect the server from overloading with workstation machine data because it manages the use of COM objects as reusable communication paths within the system. The Component Timeout sets the minutes in which any one reusable path will expire when not in use; the COM+ manager will create more COM objects as needed.
You can also find out how many Denali users your system is able to handle by referring to the COM+ Server Object Manager window. If you have less than the minimum RAM required to run Denali, the User setting will default to 1.
This utility also allows you to export the COM+ proxy file so that workstation machines can connect to it. The proxy file is an entry in the registry that holds COM object components and it allows the server and workstation machines to access them to communicate to one another.
To adjust the number of COM objects that are allowed:
1 From the Denali Server Utilities menu, select Manage COM+.
2 Enter the number of users that use Denali at any one time in the Users box.
The information displayed in the center of the window shows you how many Denali users your system is able to support. We recommend the number you enter in the Users box coincides with the number of users that are licensed to use Denali, not the number of users your physical memory allows. If you enter a number greater than the number of licensed users, Denali will use more of your system memory than is necessary to support the program, which could potentially slow down your system.
3 Set how many minutes the system should wait before timing out any unused COM object.
4 Select Export Proxy.
5 Set the location of the proxy so that workstation machines can navigate to it.
6 Click OK to set the COM objects.
