GL Module Preferences window: Account Segment Setup tab
The Account Segment Setup tab reflects the number of segments you will use in your accounts as well as the length and type of each segment. Any segments you defined on the Name UDF Segments tab will be available to select here.
If you already checked the Balance forward entries completed check box on the General tab or already created a GL account, you must use the GL Adjust Account Segments window to define segments.
Account Length
The Account Length label reflects the length of your general ledger accounts, including all defined segments. This number cannot exceed 50.
Number of segments 
Specify the total number of account segments your accounts will contain. The maximum is six, and the minimum is one (Accounting product only) or two (Fund product only). Once the number of segments is established here, it can only be changed by selecting the Adjust Account Segments button.
NOTE: You will not be able to reduce the length or number of segments once the option is saved here. You will only be able to increase the number or length of segments.
Fund Seg. Location (Fund product only)
Select the radio button corresponding to the location of your Fund segment, either Prefix or Suffix. The default for this option is Prefix.
Account Segment Setup Grid
Use the grid to define your account segments.
Seg. No. 
This field is informational only and displays the number of the selected segment.
Seg. Length 
Use these boxes to specify the number of characters that will be used for each account segment. The combined length of all segments cannot be greater than 50 characters (not including separators).
(Fund product only) The fund segment cannot be greater than six characters.
Seg. Name 
Use the drop-down to select a predefined or user-defined segment name.
(Fund product only) Either the first or last segment shows Fund, based on your selection in the Fund Seg. Location group box.
Segment separator character
Use the drop-down list to select the separator character you want to use. The default separator is a period (.).
Adjust Account Segments 
This button is available after you save at least one account in the GL Accounts window. Select this button to open the GL Adjust Account Segments window. Once you make the changes you want in this window, select OK to apply the changes to your account segments.
Account Number 
This field is informational only and shows the current account segment structure. When you set up the account structure the first time, this field changes as you set up the segments.
