GL Adjust Account Segments window
It is a good idea to carefully plan your account segments when you first establish your chart of accounts, but you can alter the segments in the GL Adjust Account Segments window.
Account Length
The Account Length label reflects the length of your general ledger accounts, including all defined segments. This number cannot exceed 50.
Number of segments
Specify the total number of account segments your GL Accounts will contain. The maximum is six and the minimum is one (Accounting product only) or two (Fund product only). Once the number of segments is established here, it can only be changed by selecting Adjust Account Segments from the Options menu. Note that you will not be able to reduce the length or number of segments once the option is saved here. You will only be able to increase the number or length of segments.
Adjust Account Segments Grid
Use the grid to change the length(s) or position(s) of your account segment(s).

This field is information only. It displays the number of segments currently set on the Account Segment Setup tab in the GL Module Preferences window.

Seg. Length
By default, this field displays the segment lengths currently set on the Account Segment Setup tab in the GL Module Preferences window. You can increase the length of each segment, but the total number of all segments must be less than 50.
(Fund product only) The fund segment cannot be greater than six characters.
Seg. Name
By default, this field displays the segment names currently set on the Account Segment Setup tab in the GL Module Preferences window. If you want to change this name, use the drop-down to select a predefined or user-defined segment name.
(Fund product only) Either the first or last segment number (depending on the location you selected for your fund segment) displays Fund and cannot be edited.
Refresh Account Number
Select this button to refresh the Account Number field after you make any changes to the Seg. Position field. Changes to the Seg. Length or Seg. Name field are displayed as you change them.
Segment separator character
Use the drop-down list to select the separator character you want to use. The default separator is a period (.).
Account Number
This shows the way the account number will appear with the new characters and/or segments indicated by “N”s. You can change the position of the newly added characters by moving the “N”s to the position you want. If you move a segment position, you must select the Refresh Account Number button to view the changes or make further changes.
(Fund product only) The Fund segment is identified by “F”s.
