Sales Device Codes window
Device Codes are used to set up communication between the sales entry windows and hardware devices such as bar code readers and check frankers. You can use this window to manually set up your Device Codes or you can use the Hardware Wizard.
Device Code
Enter a code for this device of up to six characters in length. For example, CSHDR for Cash Drawer or POLDSP for Pole Display.
Description
This field is optional, but can be used to further define this device for reference purposes. The device description can be up to 50 characters.
Device Type
The options available in this list depend on the modules installed. Use this drop-down list to select the type of device this code represents. Your options are: Bar Code Scanner (default), Cash Drawer, Check Franker, Customer Display, and Weight Scale.
Connection Type
Use this box to indicate the type of connection the hardware device will use to communicate with the software. Depending on the type of device you are creating, your options can include: Keyboard Wedge, Parallel, Serial, and Printer Code.
Connection Settings
The group of settings in this section of the window provide information for connecting the device. The options available in this section depend on the connection type you select.
Port
If you selected the connection type Parallel, the options are any parallel ports available in your system. If you selected Serial, the options here are COM1 through COM8. Select the port that coincides with the device connection.
Data Bits
This is only available with serial port connections and include the options of 5, 6, 7, and 8 (default).
Parity
This is only available with serial port connections and include the options of Odd, Even, and None (default).
Stop Bits
This is only available with serial port connections and include the options of 1 Stop Bit (default) and 2 Stop Bits.
Bit Rate
This is only available with serial port connections and include the options of 100, 150, 300, 600, 1200, 2400, 4800, 9600 (default), 14400, 19200, and 28000. This indicates the connection speed between the device and the system.
Printer Code
This option is only available for cash drawer devices. Select the printer code you wish to use for this device.
Device Settings
Review or edit the information in the field(s). The field(s) that appear are based on the device type you selected. The information to enter is provided in the documentation that came with your hardware device.
Load Manufacturer Settings
This button is only active after a device type is selected. This button will open a window that contains a list of devices from which you can choose to have the manufacturer’s settings installed.
Test Device
Once you verify the settings are correct, you can select the Test Device button to ensure the hardware device is set up properly. When the system has finished testing the device, a message will appear indicating the status. If the device test failed, the message window will provide the necessary information to correct the problem.
Hardware Wizard
This button will open the
Hardware Wizard, which walks you through the set up process. If you are not as familiar with setting up hardware devices, this might be the option you want to choose. Once you finish the wizard process, the fields in the
Sales Device Codes window for this device will automatically be filled according to the settings you chose during the process.
